Plans for the new Southern Pines Crossfit location were favorably reviewed by the Southern Pines Town Council on Wednesday. The regular agenda meeting also marked the first time town leaders have met in-person since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
Dean King of Pinnacle Development Design Build presented the application for the nearly 9,000-square-foot gym on behalf of T & S Developers, LLC. The facility will be located on an undeveloped lot on SW Broad Street, next door to the Natureâs Own store and 195 American Fusion restaurant.
Architecturally speaking, this area of town has a more industrial feel. A number of structures are steel-framed building kits clad in metal siding, but redevelopment efforts include the revamped auto dealership where Cooper Auto Choice is now located and the new two-story brick Fidelity Bank building under construction. Also nearby is Redâs Corner, a food truck campus that is being developed by Rachel Jurgens of Pony Espresso.
Cooper Fordâs commitment to customer and community service long ago earned the dealership a top spot among the competitive landscape of Moore County automotive sales. Now, Cooper Ford has earned recognition from Ford Motor Company itself, taking home the prestigious 2020 Fordâs Presidentâs Award.

Established in 1998, the award honors dealers with high ratings of customer satisfaction based on survey responses following experience in the sales or service departments, as well as sales growth. Only 10 Ford dealerships in North Carolina â and 10 percent of Ford dealerships nationwide â receive this award. Itâs one that Cooper Ford president Aaron Cooper doesnât take lightly, especially with the challenges presented to the industry in 2020.
Three construction workers were injured Thursday afternoon after roof trusses going up on a Fidelity Bank building in Southern Pines collapsed.
Authorities responded to the partial collapse at the construction site, located at Old U.S. 1 and Bell Avenue, Â shortly after 1:30 p.m.
Workers were inside the new two-story Fidelity Bank branch when the accident occurred, according to officials from Southern Pines Fire Department.
Three workers with Davie Construction were injured. Two were taken by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, while a third was airlifted to a regional trauma center, according to Deputy Chief Ted Horvath. Their conditions were not immediately available.
