SPOKANE, Wash. Last year, spring and summer looked quite a bit different. Pools were closed, and many typical activities didn’t happen. Now, Spokane is preparing to re-open pools and welcome the community back.
“It’s really pretty precious,” said Ellen Smith, who was swimming laps at Witter pool on Tuesday. “Having access to the pool after not having access to them for well over a year, being able to get back into a training regime for triathlon training, it’s hard to put into words.”
Smith loves coming to the pools because she competes in sprint triathlons and feels safer swimming at a pool than in a lake by herself. Witter Pool is already open for adult lap swim sessions, and the city plans to open all six pools this summer. Open swim at all the pools will kick off July 5.
