MHD will not revise public health order, despite higher COVID cases

The City of Milwaukee Order Phase 6 Update

MILWAUKEE– COVID-19 vaccinations are now widely available, and public health orders remain in place.  Even so, virus infections in Milwaukee continue at much higher rates than last month at this time. The gating criteria monitored by the Milwaukee Health Department continue to raise concern.  The seven-day rate of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people stands at 95.6, a number that shows “substantial transmission.” The percentage of positive tests increased to 5%, elevating that metric to “moderate transmission.” Based on these gating metrics, the Milwaukee Health Department anticipates changing the public health order next week from Phase 6 to Phase 5. That change will reduce capacity limits.  Many locations with approved safety plans will not be substantially affected by the move to Phase 5. More information about the public health order phasing is available at milwaukee.gov/mmfs.

Milwaukee Officials Report COVID-19 Vaccine Supply Plentiful, Case Increase Worrisome

/ This sign near the exit doors of the Wisconsin Center thanks people for getting a COVID-19 vaccine shot. The COVID-19 vaccine supply in Milwaukee has improved to the point where Mayor Tom Barrett is urging eligible people to come and get a shot. This week, everyone in Wisconsin, 16 and older, became eligible. Barrett said folks could just walk up and get vaccinated Thursday at the Wisconsin Center in downtown Milwaukee, and he expects that status to continue there for at least a couple days. But that s not all, according to the mayor. There are walkups available at North Division, at South Division. And so, if we re going to defeat this, or, I should say, when we defeat this COVID-19 pandemic, it will be after we have hundreds of thousands of our residents vaccinated. So, please join the fight, said Barrett.
