There is equally exciting, good news of historic restoration in the Cape Lookout National Seashore. This national seashore is much newer, somewhat smaller, and much less accessible. Established in 1966, it extends for 56 miles from Ocracoke Inlet to Beaufort Inlet, (near Morehead City). It is comprised of only three groups of islands: North Core Banks, South Core Banks and Shackleford Banks. There is only one town – village really, Portsmouth – on the entire seashore, and it is deserted. There are no paved roads on the seashore. It can only be reached by boat, public or private.   June 21, 2020) – The skeletal remains of a missing Soldier discovered Friday in Killeen, Texas have been positively identified as those of Private Gregory Morales. Morales’ remains were discovered in a field near the 3200 block of Florence Road Friday morning after U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command Special Agents received information as to the location of the body. Foul play is suspected at this point in the investigation. Army Special Agents are working closely with the Killeen Police Department and are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone with credible information concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of Morales. Morales was positively identified using dental records with the assistance of the U.S. Army Dental Corps.

(Tribune News Service) The U.S. Army says dive teams are searching the turbulent waters off Cape Lookout National Seashore in hopes of finding evidence including body parts linked to the killing of a Fort Bragg soldier on Memorial Day weekend. To date, investigators have reported only the head of 21-year-old Specialist Enrique Roman-Martinez has been recovered, after it washed up on the Shackleford Banks. The Army has released few details of its ongoing homicide investigation of the case, despite intense media attention. Cape Lookout National Seashore raised suspicions Dec. 4, when it announced Power Squadron Spit would be closed Dec. 6-11 for a joint training exercise with NPS, USCG and the US Army. The closure includes the water and the beach, the park said.
