Sandra E. Roberts Nominated for Pacific Union Conference Executive Secretary

The Pacific Union Conference Nominating Committee has released a partial report of nominations ahead of the union’s 2021 Constituency Session, to be held August 15-16 in Tucson, Arizona. Headlining the nominees are Bradford C. Newton for president and Sandra E. Roberts for executive secretary.
If elected to the position, Roberts will be the first woman to serve as a union-conference executive secretary in the North American Division. She is currently president of the Southeastern California Conference, a position she has held since 2013.
Roberts was the first Adventist woman to be elected as a conference president, and her tenure has been opposed by the General Conference. In 2017, the Pacific Union Conference’s President’s Council voted not to submit their names for inclusion in

In 2019, Royal Harrison, Greater Los Angeles Region (GLAR) director in the Southern California Conference in the United States, established an initiative called “Greater to Global.” Harrison wanted GLAR to reach the world through missionary efforts in Thailand. “There is a world of need out there,” Harrison said, “and I wanted our churches to be a part of the global mission field.”
The initiative was well received by pastors and church members throughout the Los Angeles region. The Delaware Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church in Santa Monica has made an impact globally by working with Bottles 4 Life (B4L) Inc., a non-profit organization started by one of the local church members. Despite the ongoing pandemic, an Armenian congregation in Glendale, California, United States, made history in 2021. According to church leaders, it is the first Armenian-speaking Seventh-day Adventist congregation officially organized as a company in the Western hemisphere.
The congregation is in the region of Los Angeles, home to the densest population of Armenians in the United States. According to one estimate, more than 40 percent of the 200,000-plus people in Glendale claim Armenian ancestry.
“Adventist churches in our conference reflect the amazing diversity of Southern California,” Danny Chan, Southern California Conference (SCC) Los Angeles Metro Region director, observed.

One Night In Miami which tells the fictionalized story of a conversation between Malcolm X, Jim Brown, Cassius Clay, and Sam Cooke in 1964. The film depicts the humanity of four influential African American legends at the apex of their careers, while leaving some room for interpretation. Goree’s electric portrayal of Clay offers a look at the 22-year-old icon after having been crowned the heavyweight boxing champion of the world.
