Between 21 and 30 June 2021, more than 40 iconic Australian buildings will shine bright like a sunflower to boost awareness, engage community support and raise vital research funds to support the nearly 6,000 Australians living with scleroderma today.
The Shine Like a Sunflower campaign is part of a month-long series of events hosted by Scleroderma Australia to raise awareness and research funds for this little-known chronic and often life-threatening condition that causes thickening and hardening of the body’s connective tissue.
Golden lights symbolising Scleroderma Australia’s sunflower logo will illuminate iconic buildings across Australia over several days, and in celebration of World Scleroderma Day on 29 June 2021.

India: Striking health workers in Punjab sacked
Around 1,400 striking National Health Mission (NHM) workers, including staff nurses, medical officers, homeopathy Ayurveda doctors and ministerial staff, were sacked by the Punjab government on May 10 for refusing to end their week-long strike.
About 3,000 NHM workers walked out on strike to demand higher wages and permanent jobs. The sacked workers, who were fired through the draconian Disaster Management Act, were from seven districts in Punjab.
Last September over 30,000 NHM contract workers held a national stoppage over the same demands. Although many have had ten years’ service, they are paid meagre salaries and are denied entitlements available to regular government employees.
Dynamic Solar Exports Are The Future – And A Good Thing
SolarQuotes founder Finn Peacock weighs in on dynamic (aka flexible) solar exports, which he believes are the future for home solar power in Australia – and around the world.
Transcript:
Hello from South Australia, where South Australia Power Networks, the local electricity network, have just announced that they’re going to start trials of something called dynamic solar export limiting.
Now, why should you care about this if you don’t live in South Australia? Because it’s coming to the rest of Australia – probably – that’s my educated opinion. Not that I’m that educated, but this is really, really important because it’s a paradigm shift in how we use and generate energy.

Pakistan: Striking Balochistan government workers block major highways
Ignoring calls from authorities to return to work, thousands of government workers in Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province, are continuing their struggle for a 25 percent across the board pay increase and the same allowances paid in other provinces. On Monday the strikers, including health and education workers, enforced a virtual cut-off of Balochistan from the rest of the country with a blockade of the main highways.
A sit-down protest was held outside the provincial assembly in the capital Quetta with other demonstrations held across the province. Education workers have said they will boycott high-school exams scheduled to begin on April 10. A polio vaccination campaign due this week was also postponed as workers conducting mobile vaccination campaigns joined the strike.
