Freshman Myah McDonald led the University of New Mexico women’s golf team Sunday for the first time in her career with a career-best score of 1-under through the first two rounds of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. UNM finished eight-over par on the day and is tied for eighth (8-over 584) heading in the final round on Monday.
McDonald is tied for 10th overall after shooting an even 72 in round one and a 1-under 71 in round two (143). She finished the day tied for eighth overall in pars with 25 while posting six birdies.
UNM sophomore Lauren Lehigh is 2 over, tied for 23rd overall. Lehigh shot 73 in both rounds for a total of 146.
MESA, Ariz. – Returning to the course just three days after completing its home tournament, Arizona Women s Golf didn t let the quick turnaround slow down their scoring on the first day of the Clover Cup as the Wildcats finished in first place after the opening round. Senior Yu-Sang Hou led Arizona with a 4-under round of 68 to place second after the first round.
Hou s 4-under open to the tournament came off a blistering back nine that saw her make five birdies and four pars. Behind Hou was a trio of 1-under rounds of 71 from Vivian Hou, Ya Chun Chang and Gile Bite Starkute who all finished in a tie for 10th among the field. Sophomore Therese Warner s 1-over, 73, gave Arizona a fifth lineup member in the top 20 on the individual leaderboards.
MESA, Ariz. – After a short break, Arizona Women s Golf will return to action on Friday as part of the field of the Clover Classic. The three-day tournament, hosted by Arizona State, will mark Arizona s first event of the season with its full compliment of players as decorated junior Ya Chun Chang returns to the lineup. We are excited to welcome Ya Chun back for her season debut this weekend, said head coach Laura Ianello. Adding an excellent golfer to our rotation with great experience like Ya Chun will impact our play among this competitive field. This weekend will be a great opportunity to build on our experience earlier this week at the Wildcat Invitational while adding Ya Chun into our game plan.
