MADD advised everyone to make plans for a safe ride home. “After a year of experiencing the pandemic, we know that people may be looking for opportunities to celebrate – and that safety may not be top of mind,” said MADD National President Alex Otte.

In 2019, there were 51 fatal crashes on Oahu’s roadway, according to HPD. Drugs and alcohol played a role in about a third of them. In 2020, meanwhile, there were 54 fatal crashes.
