SWEETWATER COUNTY Well folks, Sweetwater County residents will need to hold onto their hats again today.
The United States National Weather Service (NWS) has once again issued a Special Weather Statement for windy conditions in Sweetwater County. This is the second day in a row the NWS has issued a windy condition statement for the area. According to the statement, Sweetwater County can expect “very windy” conditions today.
Westerly wind gusts between 25 to 35 mph are expected to continue until around 5 pm today. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are also anticipated.

Due to high wind gusts, residents can expect to see travel impacted, especially those with light or high profile vehicles. Yesterday, January 13, the Wyoming Department of Transportation closed portions of Interstate 80 and Interstate 25 after semi trucks and trailers were blown over.
SWEETWATER COUNTY The United States National Weather Service (NWS) measured wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour throughout Sweetwater County yesterday.
According to the NWS, yesterday afternoon the southeast portion of Rock Springs reported a 70 mph wind gust, while the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport reported a wind gust of 64 mph.
Earlier in the day, Green River reported a 58 mph wind gust in the northeast portion of the city, and in the northwest portion reported a 51 mph wind gust.

Green River and Rock Springs were not the only areas of the county to report high wind gusts. Point of Rocks reported a 53 mph wind gust and Wamsutter reported a 53 mph wind gust. To see the complete list of wind gusts across the state click here.
The NWS is anticipating high winds to remain in Sweetwater County until about 8 pm December 20.
West winds of 30-40 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph are anticipated to in Sweetwater County, specifically in the eastern portion of the county. Rock Springs and Reliance have already reported 55 mph winds gusts, while the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport reported a wind gust of 52 mph.

Muddy Gap and Big Piney both reported a 78 mph gust, while Sunlight Basin in Park County reported a gust at 91 mph.

Travel could be impacted by the winds, especially high profile vehicles. The Wyoming Department of Transportation has closed sections of I80 to light and high profile vehicles throughout most of the day in the Southeast portion of the state. For up to date road reports visit WYDOT’s website.
