Camping fire near Southeast of Saline School causes $2,000 in damage
The Salina Journal
The Saline County sheriff s department responded to a report of a field on fire at 12:27 a.m. Saturday near the 5400 block of East K-4 Highway.
A 26-year-old woman, Jessica Gravatt, had permission to camp near that area and decided to start a fire to cook fajitas.
The fire got out of control, burned 30 acres of grassland valued at around $2,000, and burned an acre of grass on the north side of K-4 near South Cunningham Road that belonged to the city of Gypsum.
The city wrote Gravatt a ticket for burning without a permit, since she started a fire instead of using a grill or a similar device.
