SOUTHBRIDGE - After 14 weeks of a hybrid learning model during the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of public school teachers have told the state-appointed receiver they want to switch to full remote learning after the winter break.
A petition from the teachers union to receiver/superintendent Jeffrey A. Villar was signed by 133 members of the Southbridge Education Association. It was issued to Villar Wednesday, the last day before winter break.
The petition requests that after shifting to remote learning, the district return to a hybrid model no sooner than Jan. 25. It also asks that the district avert layoffs and pay all educators, even if it goes to full remote learning.
