SCOTTVILLE — “Incidents” with “unanswered questions” have been discovered in the investigation into Scottville’s finances stemming from a near-miss of the city’s 2020 revenue-sharing paperwork deadline, and one city employee will be questioned about those issues in the new year, according to City Attorney Carlos Alvarado. During Monday’s city commission meeting, Alvarado provided an update about the investigation, which is being conducted by a committee consisting of himself, Mayor Marcy Spencer and Police Chief Matt Murphy, currently serving as acting city manager. Alvarado stated that there are some specifics about the investigation that he can not disclose without violating the privacy of the employee in question, but he provided what information he could.

Small Businesses Impacted by COVID-19 Apply for CARES Act Funding December 15, 2020 Starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, small businesses all over the state could start applying for grants from the Pure Michigan Small Business Relief Initiative. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation program is using $10 million in federal CARES Act funding to provide up to $15,000 grants to small businesses. The goal is to provide relief for businesses like restaurants, bars and others affected by the state’s COVID-19 restrictions. The Bearded Dogg Lounge in Gaylord applied for the grant, they saw firsthand just how high of a demand there is for this relief.

Starting today, small businesses can apply for up to $15K in COVID relief grants

CADILLAC — A program administered by the state of Michigan has allocated nearly $2 million in grants for small businesses in this part of Michigan. According to a press release issued by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation on Monday, Michigan’s small businesses that have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 virus will be able to apply for grants of up to $15,000 through the Pure Michigan Small Business Relief Initiative beginning at 9 a.m. today.  The program will utilize $10 million in federal U.S. Housing and Urban Development CARES Act funding to provide economic assistance to small businesses across Michigan. Region 2, which includes Wexford and Missaukee counties, along with eight other counties in the area, will receive $500,000; and Region 4, which includes Osceola and Lake counties, along with 11 other counties, will receive $1.3 million.
