State Police release officer names, details in Dec police shooting

Copyright © 2021 Albuquerque Journal New Mexico State Police identified the officers – but not the deputies – who shot at and killed a man last month following a pursuit and standoff in Farmington. State Police spokesman Dusty Francisco said State Police officer Nathan Oliver, Farmington officer Navid Babadi and four San Juan County deputies fired on William Hernandez, 46, on Dec. 14 outside the Life Care Center in Farmington. Hernandez, who police said was holding a gun to another man’s head in a vehicle at the time, died at the scene. “At the request of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, the identities of the deputies involved will not be released by State Police,” Francisco said.

Fatal rollover crash on I-25 south of Belen

Just after noon on Sunday, Jan. 3, New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal rollover crash on Interstate 25, near mile post 181 south of Belen. The initial investigation shows a 1996 Ford Explorer SUV, driven by a 48-year-old man from Socorro was traveling south on Interstate 25. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and rolled. The man sustained unknown injuries and he was transported to an area hospital. There were two other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash — Bonnie Ganadonegro, 34, of Socorro, and a 10-year-old child. Both Ganadonegro and the child were ejected from the vehicle. Ganadonegro sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The child was transported to a hospital in Albuquerque by air. The child’s condition is unknown.

Associated Press U.S. Rep.-elect Yvette Herrell of New Mexico says she ll be among Republican members of Congress who will formally object on Wednesday to the certification of the Electoral College tally of votes. Herrell said Thursday on Facebook that she would vote against certifying the Electoral College results in which President-elect Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump, the Roswell Daily Record reported. Herrell in November unseated first-term incumbent Democrat Xochitl Torres Small to represent the 2nd Congressional District in central and southern New Mexico. Herrell is set to be sworn into office on Sunday, three days before House and Senate hold a joint session to certify the vote results.
