Burn Institute to hold 22nd Annual ‘Fill the Boot’ firefighter boot drive

On Thursday, June 17, local firefighters will take to the streets for the Burn Institute’s 22nd Annual “Fill the Boot for the Burn Institute” Firefighter Boot Drive. Hundreds of uniformed firefighters will be stationed at intersections across the county to collect donations for the Burn Institute’s fire and burn prevention education and burn survivor support services. This year there are expanded ways to give to ensure the safety of first responders and the community. Banners with QR codes will hang at participating fire stations throughout the month of June promoting the Firefighter Boot Drive. The banners and the signage used on June 17 will also include QR codes for a contactless payment option.

Residents from the Lake City and the surrounding area rallied around the latest fundraising efforts of the Williams Lake Fire Department.
Usually held in the Fall, they were out over the weekend at several businesses holding their Boot Drive for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Derek Sulentich Department Member and Regional Advisor for the Cariboo for Muscular Dystrophy Canada said he was blown away by the generosity that was shown over the three days.
“The $14,600 is probably one of our higher totals and I’ve been doing this for 28-years and I’m just completely blown away. I would like to thank our Fire Department and also Wildwood Fire Department came in and gave us a hand as they usually do every year, so they had some members join us on Saturday and Sunday.”

Don’t be alarmed when you see members of the Williams Lake Fire Department at several locations throughout the City.
Today (March 5th) and over the weekend they’ll be out collecting donations for their annual Boot Drive for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Derek Sulentich department member and Regional Advisor for the Cariboo for Muscular Dystrophy Canada said this fundraiser usually takes place in the fall.
“Because of COVID issues it got pushed back, our general time slot is usually September, October. So we will be starting it today from four til nine, tomorrow and Sunday noon to five at various locations in Williams Lake.”

GREENSBURG – The Greensburg Eagle Riders presented Decatur County Special Olympics with a check for $8,000 recently at Aerie 927 in Greensburg.
Eagles Riders fundraising organizer Nate Weckop talked about the donation and why the Eagles Riders support Special Olympics.
“We’ve been supporting Decatur County Special Olympics for about five or six years now, and there’s not a better cause or a more appreciative group for what we do,” he said.
The Eagles Riders is a very active motorcycle riding group started in 1987 as a social group, but also as a fundraising entity.
