Duluth Homegrown Music Festival Saturday dawned clear and with an expected high around 60, so it was a safe bet that a kickball game would spring up at Chester Bowl Park for the first time since 2019. In a way it was a throwback to the early days, when the smaller number of bands performing translated into a smaller number of players on the field. Find a complete rundown of the game from Mike Creger on Perfect Duluth Day.

It was the last night of Earth Rider Brewery’s Starfire Unofficial Birthday Bash. The evening started with New Salty Dog, wrapping up a busy Homegrown week for them that included a performance at 2104, a duo set from Jacob and Owen Mahon on KUMD’s The Local, and a fun video that was part of Homegrown’s pre-recorded content for this year’s festival. The early crowd was a little bigger than it had been the rest of the week, with folks bundled up against the chill wind but obviously e

This year s virtual Duluth Homegrown Music Festival ended with a showing of Charlie Parr s Duluth Cider performance from early in the pandemic, at a time when artists were just figuring out the livestream thing. One benefit of a virtual Homegrown is having the option of watching it at leisure; all of this year s Homegrown livestreams are available on the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival YouTube channel. The virtual content also gave former Duluthians the chance to follow along with all of the fes

Thursday is traditionally Souptown night for the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival, with most shows happening in Superior and a pre-game soup potluck with music, dubbed #SoupB4Sup at 2104. In a way, this year’s Thursday activities were more like a normal Homegrown than previous nights, with a small gathering of soup-eaters and livestreams at 2104 plus live, in person shows across the bridge at Earth Rider.
The live shows started earliest, with the Misisipi Mike Allstars kicking off night two of what Earth Rider is dubbing “Starfire’s Unofficial Birthday Bash” during Homegrown week. The crowd trickled in as the evening went on, with some light sprinkles that did nothing to chase away the good vibes.
