Sample survey underway in city to elicit people’s views on COVID-19 vaccines February 2, 2021 Mysore/Mysuru: To elicit people’s opinion about the two vaccines, Covaxin and Covishield approved by Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency recently, the students and staff of Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College, Mysuru, have taken up a sample survey in city.  “We have taken up this sample survey in Nazarbad area which has a population of 44,000 people. Opinion of each person is recorded. This survey is only for research purpose,” Dr. Mudassir Azeez Khan, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, told SOM.

On Tuesday, as many as 6,293 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Kerala, the highest in the country. The total number of active and recoveries cases in the state are 71,607 and 8,24,446 respectively, the state health department informed. As per a statement, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a review meeting said that the government is working to reduce the spread of the disease by mid-February.

However, the distribution pattern has raised a few eyebrows as the Cvaccine by Bharat Biotech, Covaxin, has been allotted only to six Centre-run hospitals, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Safdarjung, and Ram Manohar Lohia (RML), a list of hospitals with the vaccines allotted by the Delhi government revealed. Meanwhile, 75 hospitals which include state-run and private hospitals, will receive Covishield, developed by Oxford/AstraZeneca with Serum Institute of India (SII), which is handling its marketing and production in the country.
