Lough Ree Access for All project humbled to be among National Lottery Good Causes Awards finalists Reporter: alan.walsh@longfordleader.ie );   ); Lough Ree Access for All in Lanesboro and Ballyleague is among the thirty-six community groups, sports clubs and organisations from all over Ireland who have been announced as finalists in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards.  Volunteers with the boat service for people with disabilities said they are ‘humbled to be selected’ among the six finalists in the ‘Health & Wellbeing’ category. The Lough Ree Access For All boat provides an adapted, integrated water based experience for people with disabilities for the very first time, allowing access for up to 8 wheelchair users at the same time.

Photograph by John Kelly Funding boost for six Clare communities January 16, 2021 SIX towns and villages in Clare have been given a funding boost of just under €800,000 to help local communities adapt to life under Covid-19 restrictions. A total of €779,242 has been allocated to the local projects under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2020. €200,000 has been granted to Obair in Newmarket-On-Fergus to regenerate a derelict building on main street. The project will see the construction of a production kitchen, cooking enterprise hubs, a commercial cookery school, holistic space and office suites and a youth cafe. The project aims to help make Newmarket-On-Fergus to be a more sustainable village in which to live, work and socialise.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, today (Wednesday, December 16th) announced details of the Transitional LEADER Programme which will come into effect in April 2021.  A statement said that in line with a commitment in the Programme for Government, the Transitional LEADER Programme will bridge a gap between the wind-up of the current 2014-2020 LEADER Programme and the start of the next EU programme, which is not likely to commence until 2023 due to delays at EU level.
