ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) Parishioners of St. Michael s Church on North Clinton Avenue are calling on the Diocese of Rochester to allow their church to stay open.
It was announced that St. Michael s could close during Christmas Mass.
A group called Friends of St. Michael s says it s been in contact with the diocese, but in a recent letter, they were told the neighborhood poses safety challenges that need to be addressed by the city of Rochester.
The group says they ve asked to meet with Bishop Salvatore Matano.
The diocese responded by asking for a resumé from the group and released the following statement:

ROCHESTER, N.Y. After a recent quadruple shooting on Lyell Avenue that left a man dead, local community groups got together Saturday to stand against violence in the area.
Leaders from Save Rochester Black Lives Matter, the Little Italy Historic District, and the Hispanic Community on North Clinton Avenue are working together to protest what they say is a lack of humanity that is being shown for the area by government officials.
The groups will be holding another protest in March from Lyell to Clinton Avenues to stand against what they say is a low quality of living for the area.
Former Tullamore priest appointed as new Archbishop of Dublin

A former Tullamore based priest has been appointed as the new Archbishop of Dublin.
Pope Francis, has appointed the Most Reverend Dr Dermot Farrell, until now Bishop of Ossory, as Archbishop of Dublin. A Westmeath native, he was appointed Curate in Tullamore Parish in the late 1980s after returning from studying in Rome.
Born in 1954, he began his studies for the priesthood at Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth in 1972, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1976, as part of his philosophical studies.
During his theological studies he was awarded a Bachelor in Divinity Degree in 1979 and a licence is Theology in 1981, both by the Pontifical University, Maynooth.
