In a news release late Friday afternoon, Horizon said the ER is experiencing high patient volumes in addition to staffing challenges. “Patients with non-urgent medical issues may experience long wait times if they present to the emergency department as we prioritize patients with medical emergencies,” said the release. Horizon encourages people to visit sowhywait.ca to help choose the best option for their care. That includes St. Joseph’s Hospital for urgent but non-life threatening care, Tele-Care 811, pharmacist, primary health care provider, after-hours clinic, virtual care, or the emergency department if it is an emergency.

Five-year-old James is in palliative care at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was diagnosed with a genetic disorder and is suffering from liver failure. His last wish is to have a parade of police vehicles, fire trucks, construction vehicles, along with cars and bikes in his honour. Make-A-Wish Canada has teamed up with local first responders and others to organize a parade by the hospital at 10 a.m. Saturday.
