Why there s nothing like Christmas on a Cunard cruise ship Save Follow When I was invited to join Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth as a guest speaker for a pre-Christmas cruise in Australia last year, I hesitated.  Surely, Christmas on a cruise ship would mean hectic, organised jollity, making my festive spirits sink deeper than the Mariana Trench? And many would say a hot sunny Christmas is just “not right”. Well, my son and family live in Sydney, so I’m very happy singing carols in a swimsuit as Santa surfs onto Bondi beach.  But coming from the chilly UK, it’s still disconcerting hearing It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas as we arrived at Melbourne airport to 30°C heat. A sign read: “Welcome to the summer festival”. No tinsel, tree or fairy lights. You would never guess that Christmas was only just over a week away.
