Eaton County Sheriff now investigating shooting deaths of family as murder 3 killed in April 13 shooting Tags:  EATON COUNTY, Mich. – The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the shooting deaths of a family as murder. Deputies responded to a shooting on Old River Trail at 11 p.m. on April 13. They found Joseph Lechleitner, 47, and his 5-year-old child Vivian Zwick fatally shot. They found 3-year-old Anson Zwick wounded, but alive. Anson Zwick died at a hospital. The father lived in the Shingleton area of the Upper Peninsula. All three people were found in a residential neighborhood in Delta Township, all of them had been shot.

DELTA TWP.  The Eaton County Sheriff s Department said they are now investigating the deaths of two children and their father in Delta Township as a murder.  Early reports from the sheriff s office indicated the April 13 deaths of 47-year-old Joseph Lechleitner, 5-year-old Vivian Zwick and 3-year-old Anson Zwick were the result of a murder-suicide.  The sheriff s office said Tuesday the deaths are now being investigated as a murder, according to a press release.  Police were called to a home on Old River Trail in Delta Township at about 11 p.m. April 13 for a report of a shooting, according to the sheriff s office. They found Vivian and Lechleitner dead in the home and Anson in critical condition. Anson died the next day from injuries sustained in the shooting.

Contrary to authorities’ original story from their preliminary investigation, investigators now suspect  Joseph Lechleitner did not fatally shoot Anson  Zwick, 3, and  “Detectives do not believe this is a random act of violence,” the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Tuesday. (Deputies say Lechleitner was 47. An online obituary states he was 48.) It is unclear what resulted in the change of theory. The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a Law&Crime request for comment.
