The High Court yesterday ruled that Tufan Sarkar, a suspended Sramik League leader of Bogura who is accused of committing corruption, cannot seek bail from any court for six months for resorting to fraudulence.
Tufan committed forgery with the HC by submitting a fresh bail petition even though a rule over this issue was pending with the same court, Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Sazzad Hossain told The Daily Star.
The ACC filed the corruption case with Bogura Sadar Police Station on December 31, 2018, against Tufan, who came to the limelight after raping a college girl and shaving heads of the victim and her mother in Bogura.

In a High Court ruling today, Tufan Sarkar, a suspended Sramik League leader of Bogura, was barred from seeking bail from any court of the country for the next six months in a corruption case filed against him for committing fraudulence with the court.
Tufan Sarkar committed forgery with the HC by submitting a fresh bail petition before it, although a rule over this issue has been pending at the same court, Anti-Corruption Commission s lawyer Sazzad Hossain told The Daily Star.

In the 50 years since Bangladesh s independence, those in power have claimed of many developments in the country but they still haven t been able to ensure a safe and secured society for women, speakers said at an anti-rape rally today.
Citing data, the speakers held the government responsible for the rise of rapes in the hill tracts and on plain land. Rape is a crime where the criminals, in most cases, are close aides of the people in power like ruling party men and police. Not only rape, these people are also involved with land grabbing, extortion. These are all linked to power, Anu Muhammad, a professor of Jahangirnagar University and also member-secretary of National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports, told at the rally.
