Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman cut the ribbon on Friday, officially opening a new 911 dispatch facility that sports his name.
The âSheriff Mitchel Newman Law Enforcement Communication Centerâ has been built on the north side of the Sheriffâs Department, and in addition to a much larger space for dispatchers to work in, the $800,000.00 building also features a large meeting room as well as a kitchen.
Newman, along with Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan pointed out that although the building has Newmanâs name on it, the real driving force behind the project was former Chief Deputy Glenn Blank, who died in November of 2019 due to complications following a double lung transplant.
The Jasper County Sheriffâs Department is investigating the latest in a string of burglaries that have occurred in the Curtis Community.
Jasper businessman Derek Billingsley says his vehicle and his wifeâs vehicle were both burglarized early Tuesday morning. Billingsley said it happened while he was awake in the house, which is located on Highway 63 West about 2 miles outside of the Jasper city limits.
Billingsley said cash and other items were taken.
Jasper County Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan said at this point itâs not known if this crime is related to the others that have occurred recently in Curtis. The others included at least two house burglaries in which guns were taken.
