SUV crashes into rock wall Hancock County Sheriff’s Log Week of March 4 ELLSWORTH Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies charged a Bloomington, Ind., man after investigating a crash on Newbury Neck Road in Surry Saturday. Ronald Hawkins, 45, was driving south in a 2021 Volvo sport utility vehicle when he came to the end of the public access portion of the road and ran into a large rock wall and metal gate. “This caused significant damage to the rock wall and gate,” said Deputy Dan Harlan. “There was extensive damage to the vehicle, and it was towed from the scene.” “After further investigation into the crash, it was determined that Hawkins had been drinking alcohol,” Harlan said.

ELLSWORTH A possible prowler in Surry turned out to be animals eating from bushes against the residence, which made sounds as though someone was there, Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Mariza Gionfriddo reported. Gionfriddo checked the residence on Feb. 17 and found numerous animal tracks but no human footprints. “The complainant was thankful for the response,” the deputy said. Citizen assists A woman walked away from an assisted living facility in Hancock Feb. 15 and the staff was concerned about her well-being due to the cold temperatures and impending inclement weather. Gionfriddo located the woman, who didn’t want to return to the facility and asked for an ambulance to get to a hospital.
