Vehicle break-in attempt fails

Someone tried to break into a vehicle parked in a Tremont driveway Saturday night, but the vehicle was locked and the car alarm went off, scaring the intruder away, Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Marcus Downes reported.
Vandalism
Deputy Luke Gross is investigating vandalism to a sign on private property in Surry. The incident was reported Sunday.
Domestic incident
A concerned citizen reported a possible domestic incident occurring in a vehicle in the Hancock/Sullivan area Sunday. Downes was able to find the vehicle and stop it.
SUV crashes into rock wall

ELLSWORTH
Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies charged a Bloomington, Ind., man after investigating a crash on Newbury Neck Road in Surry Saturday.
Ronald Hawkins, 45, was driving south in a 2021 Volvo sport utility vehicle when he came to the end of the public access portion of the road and ran into a large rock wall and metal gate.
“This caused significant damage to the rock wall and gate,” said Deputy Dan Harlan. “There was extensive damage to the vehicle, and it was towed from the scene.”
“After further investigation into the crash, it was determined that Hawkins had been drinking alcohol,” Harlan said.
