A Thurston County Sheriff’s dog that was shot multiple times during a police chase returned home on Monday, January 18.
THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. - A Thurston County Sheriff’s dog that was shot multiple times during a police chase returned home last week.
K-9 officer Arlo was shot twice in a police pursuit near Grand Mound in Olympia, Washington, last week.
The police dog underwent multiple surgeries over the weekend at Oregon State University’s Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine to remove a bullet near his spine.
His handler, Deputy Tyler Turpin, often shares videos of Arlo on the job and off. Together, they’ve amassed a fan base of more than 2 million, and it’s easy to understand the appeal!
Sgt. Rod Ditrich, the department’s K-9 unit supervisor, described Arlo as “an amazing dog” and added, “He’s just so enthusiastic and he’s one of our most vocal, energetic dogs that we’ve got he just is always happy, wants to please, just an amazing animal. K9 Officer Who Suffered 2 Gunshot Wounds Chasing Armed Suspect Returns Home
Arlo is now recovered and has returned home, where he will continue to rest and recuperate.
After the pursuit of an armed driver on I-5 south in Washington state on Jan. 13, Arlo was shot twice and sustained bullet wounds to the leg, shoulder, and neck.
According to the Thurston County Sheriff, the armed driver was a 25-year-old male, who was also struck by gunfire and rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
The wounded K-9 officer was rushed to a local animal hospital, where he underwent surgery and was stabilized, Komo News reports.

A police dog who has more than 1.5 million social media fans has been released from hospital in Washington after being shot twice in the line of duty.
Arlo, of the Thurston County Sheriff s Office K-9 unit, was injured during a vehicle pursuit on January 13.
The 3-year-old German shepherd was left with a bullet lodged near his spine and a gunshot wound to his leg. The K-9 was taken to Newaukum Valley Veterinary Services in Chehalis, Washington, for treatment before having eight hours of surgery at Oregon State University s Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine.
