It is suspected that the death could have occurred in a fight
A tusker aged between 15 and 18 was found dead in an abandoned government land near Uduvare in Sakleshpur taluk. The carcass, which was in a decomposed state, was noticed on Saturday and the post-mortem was conducted on Sunday. The tusks, 50 cm in length, were intact. Officers suspect that the death could be due to injuries during infighting.
Two herds, totalling around 30, were noticed around estates in the area in the past 10 to 12 days. Rapid response teams of the Forest Department had monitored the movement.

Seven old trees along the Old Airport Road have already been axed to construct an underpass at Suranjan Das Road Junction.
On 14th March, BBMP workers had also begun pruning the branches of many large trees that have been earmarked for felling.
These heritage trees were once home to hundreds of birds, and shade for small animals and motorists.

BBMP headquarters last week when three forest contractors roughed up the Deputy Range Forest Officer (DRFO) after a heated exchange over the trio demanding money from the DRFO to cover their legal costs. The three contractors are fighting a case registered by an IFS official earlier and were disgruntled at having to foot the bill to attend court hearings, as litigation charges and advocates’ fee.
