LG announces Spl pension, scholarships; financial assistance for COVID victim families

Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, May 11: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha today announced a slew of measures to mitigate the suffering of families who have lost their loved ones to COVID-19 pandemic. The Lt Governor said, senior citizens who have lost only earning member of the family will be provided special pension for life while children, who have lost their parents to this calamity, will be provided with special scholarship by the Government. “Many of our near and dear ones have left us untimely due to COVID-19. The Government has decided to reach out to each and every such family and they will be provided with financial assistance for self-employment by the Jammu & Kashmir Bank,” he said.

Authorities today suspended the train services from tomorrow (May 11) till May 16 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 cases in Valley. Chief Area Manager Railways, Saqib Yousuf said that train services will be suspended from tomorrow (May 11) till May 16 evening. He said as of now they have directions to suspend the train services for one week, which can be extended further as per the situation.

2 defunct oxygen manufacturing units in Kashmir to be functional soon

Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, May 8: In order to augment the Medical oxygen supply in Kashmir, the Industries Department is making efforts to make two defunct oxygen manufacturing units functional as the spike in COVID-19 cases continued in the Valley. Director Industries Kashmir, Nazim Zia Khan, told Excelsior that the department is helping two small oxygen manufacturing units which are lying defunct to re-start oxygen manufacturing as there is demand for medical oxygen due to a spike in the COVID-19 cases. Khan said that ND Gas Rangreth having a daily capacity of 570 cubic metre and Barkat Gas with 70 metre cubic capacity are being made functional soon. “They have liabilities of the PDD and we are getting that waived in order to make these two units functional as soon as possible”, he said.

SRINAGAR: In view of the rising Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference President and Member of Parliament, Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah today in a letter issued to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar recommended the release Rs.1.40 crores towards, improving the Covid care facilities in the hospitals falling under the jurisdiction of his Parliamentary Constituency. As per the letter, Dr. Farooq Abdullah recommended the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar to allocate Rs. 50 lakhs to Directorate of Health Services Kashmir and Rs. 30 lakhs each to Govt CD Hospital Srinagar, SMHS Hospital Srinagar and SKIMS Medical College Srinagar. Farooq Abdullah Offers ₹ 1.4 Crore From His MP Fund For Covid Management File Photo SRINAGAR:  National Conference president and Member of Parliament Farooq Abdullah on Saturday recommended the release of ₹ 1.4 crore from his MPLADS fund towards improving the COVID care facilities in certain hospitals of Kashmir. In a letter to Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Abdullah said the funds be utilised for improving the COVID care facilities in the hospitals falling under the jurisdiction of his parliamentary constituency, which is spread over Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts. “In view of the fact that COVID-19 is spreading at an alarming rate in Kashmir, I think it most appropriate to use the MPLADS Funds released by the Government of India recently in my favour mainly towards improving the COVID care facilities in the hospitals falling under the jurisdiction of my parliamentary constituency,” he said.
