Earth Day cleanup events keep Kodiak beautiful

Today marks the 51st anniversary of Earth Day. During the next two weeks, several organizations in Kodiak are hosting events aimed at cleaning up the environment around the island.   On Friday, the Island Trails Network, in collaboration with the Sun’aq Tribe of Kodiak and Alaska Sea Grant, will host a cleanup event at Buskin Beach from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Parking fees will be waived for volunteers who do not have a parking pass.  On Saturday, Island Trails Network will team up with AmeriCorps for a cleanup at Gibson Cove from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Volunteers will need to bring their own gloves, but trash bags will be provided.
