Today marks the 51st anniversary of Earth Day. During the next two weeks, several organizations in Kodiak are hosting events aimed at cleaning up the environment around the island. Â
On Friday, the Island Trails Network, in collaboration with the Sunâaq Tribe of Kodiak and Alaska Sea Grant, will host a cleanup event at Buskin Beach from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Parking fees will be waived for volunteers who do not have a parking pass.Â
On Saturday, Island Trails Network will team up with AmeriCorps for a cleanup at Gibson Cove from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Volunteers will need to bring their own gloves, but trash bags will be provided.Â
