PORT CLINTON - One of Port Clinton’s most popular local breweries is about to be tapping into even more potential as it prepares for a major expansion set to open early next month.
Catawba Island Brewing Co. announced that they are undergoing expansion to their Port Clinton location at 2330 E. Harbor Road, which will allow them to produce nearly twice as much beer upon completion of the project and up to four times more in the future.
“What this (expansion) really does is, it gets us in a position to grow,” said Mike Roder, founder of Catawba Island Brewing Co. “We found a property that worked for the brewery, and we went with it, but it wasn’t enough to grow with. Now it is.”

Bryan Stevenson and Marsalis are similar personalities, both soft-spoken and eloquent, both on a life mission to teach others. Here is where I mention I was Bryan’s high school track coach in 1977 at Cape, where he also played soccer. Bryan’s humbleness blended with intelligence makes him endearing, and he has a serious artistic side. A short story on a visit to meet Marsalis: Bryan asked if he could sit down and play the piano. Wynton thought it was a joke until Bryan started playing. Fast forward: Bryan will appear with the Marsalis jazz orchestra at the Lincoln Center Friday, May 21, where he will speak and perform, playing “Honeysuckle Rose” and “We Shall Overcome.” Maybe I’ll perform “Honeysuckle Grandma Rose”?

The brewery is set to open a taproom at 10 Old Colony Ave. at the former Cole Hersee plant, the Boston Globe reports.
“We here at Castle Island Brewing Company couldn’t be more excited to FINALLY announce our second location, opening this summer in South Boston right down the street from our very namesake,” the brewery wrote on Instagram in a post announcing the new taproom.
