Indiscriminate burning of waste on streets has raised health concern among the residents of Karumandapam and Dheeran Nagar in the city.
Thanks to rapid urbanisation in recent years, a number of residential colonies have sprung up on both sides of Karumandapam from National College to Dheeran Nagar. Karumandapam has become one of the major residential localities in the city with hundreds of houses in Sakthi Nagar, Jaya Nagar, R.M.S. Colony, Kalyanasundaram Nagar and Thiru Nagar. Similarly, a large number of commercial establishments including restaurants, roadside eateries, grocery shops and meat stalls have also come up in the recent past.

Health officials conducted work place camps at various places in Tiruchi district
With the Health Department organising sector-specific camps in different parts of the district, vaccination coverage is going up steadily.
The average daily coverage of COVID-19 vaccination was hovering around just 3,000 till a week ago. It has gone up to about 5,000 over the last few days. A total of 6,576 persons were vaccinated on Monday. The count was 6,209 on Tuesday.

A class III Sub Post Office was inaugurated at Dheeran Nagar in the city by Appakannu Govindarajan, Postmaster General, Central Region – Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday. All type of savings bank operations, Sukanya Samriddhi account, recurring deposits, time deposits, monthly income scheme, senior citizen savings scheme, Public Provident Fund and insurance services would be offered at the post office, Mr.Govindarajan said after the inauguration. Postal services such as booking of registered letter , parcel, speed post and electronic money order will also be available, according to a press release. Urging the public to utilise the post office, Mr.Govindarajan said it would be upgraded to the to the next category if there were good number of transactions.
