Ralph Northam and First Lady Pamela Northam received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine Monday, just over one year after COVID-19 was first recorded in the Commonwealth. “The good news is that there’s finally some light at the end of this long, dark tunnel,” said Governor Northam. He pointed to decreasing test positivity rates in Virginia and increasing vaccine availability as signs the pandemic is subsiding. The governor stressed the safety and efficacy of all three available vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. A Virginia National Guard team administered the shots. The state military branch has five teams able to travel the state and vaccinate about 250 people each per day.

Both got the shots in their left arms with the First Lady removing a yellow jacket for her shot, and the Governor taking off a dress shirt and took the shot in a white undershirt. Addressing the media before taking the shot, he highlighted good news in Virginia with case numbers and percentages going down, and vaccination numbers and rates going up.

4 former correctional officers sentenced to prison for inmate s death

NationofChange 4 former correctional officers sentenced to prison for inmate’s death “Their actions are a disgrace to all correctional officers who serve ethically and continue to maintain high moral standards throughout our correctional facilities.” Four former Louisiana correctional officers were recently sentenced to prison for violating the civil rights of an inmate who died in custody due to a pre-existing medical condition. In March 2014, Nimali Henry, 19, was sent to jail on charges of simple battery, disturbing the peace, and unauthorized entry after getting into an altercation while trying to retrieve her four-month-old daughter from the child’s father. Suffering from thrombocytopenic purpura, or TTP, a rare disorder that causes clots to form in small blood vessels throughout the body, Henry required medication for the life-threatening condition.
