With the district health authorities unable to provide much help, residents of Barwa village have taken upon themselves to devise a mechanism for the timely treatment of those showing Covid-like symptoms, enlisting the services of registered medical practitioners (RMPs).
The villagers claim there has been no RT-PCR testing and contact tracing by the authorities so far. Jolted by the demise of panchayat member Hawa Singh (40) on April 30, who could not get the requisite medical aid, the villagers decided to form “Corona Sahayata Samiti” comprising over 200 members. Dharampal, a member of the samiti, claimed almost 70 per cent villagers were down with fever. “As many as 54 residents have tested positive for Covid-19. There have been three deaths die to Covid in the past one week. As of now, four critically ill patients are undergoing treatment in the village itself. It is a struggle to get oxygen cylinders as the administration has rationed dist
Villagers are also hesitant on getting vaccinated
Instead of getting treatment in hospitals, they prefer approaching RMPs or local quacks
After devastating densely populated cities like Gurugram, the pandemic has started taking its toll on Haryana’s rural areas.
According to reports, Hisar’s Sisay village has witnessed over 25 deaths in the past two weeks. Sources say most of the deaths remain unreported as villagers do not get themselves tested despite showing Covid-like symptoms.
Baljeet Singh of Sisay said around 2-3 deaths were taking place in the village almost every day. Last week, six deaths were reported in a single day. “Most families have their members suffering from Covid-like symptoms, yet they are avoiding getting themselves tested,” he said.

Hisar hospitals are flooded with queries for admission, ICU beds and ventilators from Covid patients in Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region, including Gurugram and Noida.
Sources said out of around 1,000 Covid patients admitted to 31 hospitals in Hisar, around 350 (35 per cent) are from outside Haryana. Hisar hospitals are also getting patients from adjoining districts of Jind, Fatehabad, Sirsa and Bhiwani. One of the hospitals here has 20 patients from Delhi.
Sources say some of the hospitals are admitting patients beyond their capacity. “The death of five patients at a private hospital yesterday is a case in point. Among the deceased patients, one was from Mansa (Punjab) and another from Delhi. The hospital did not have adequate oxygen cylinders to deal with the emergency situation, leading to a tragedy,” said a hospital official.
