Jackson police responded just after 8 p.m., Jan. 31, to a home in the 400 block of E. Prospect Street, where a 54-year-old man had threatened a family member with a short barrel shotgun, Jackson Police and Fire Services Director Elmer Hitt said. The man refused to leave the home, but police were able to get everyone else outside, Hitt said.

Jayda Blanchard, 19, of Jackson, died from a gunshot around 4:17 a.m., Dec. 28, in the 500 block of W. Franklin Street, Police and Fire Services Director Elmer Hitt said. Emergency crews attempted to revive Blanchard but were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Anyone with information about the shooting asked to contact Det.
