NORTH EAST â A man is facing several charges after investigators confiscated 82 pounds of suspect marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $280,000 â in addition to a bag holding in excess of $100,000 in cash â during a traffic stop near North East, according to Cecil County District Court records.
Maryland State Police Sgt. Conner stopped a 2020 Toyota Sienna with New York license plates at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday in the northbound lane of Interstate 95, about two miles north of the North East/Rising Sun ramps, for allegedly speeding, police reported.

ELKTON â A Delaware man is in custody on murder charges after he allegedly opened fire on the married owners of an Elkton motel in the lobby of their establishment on Friday night â killing the woman and critically wounding her husband, according to police and Cecil County District Court records.
Investigators identified the suspect as 26-year-old Hakeem M. Evans, a Newark, Del., resident who was a guest at the New Eastern Inn at 291 E. Pulaski Highway (Route 40) when he allegedly fatally shot Ushaben Patel, 59, and critically wounded her husband, Dilipbhai Patel, also 59, through a glass partition in the office lobby.
Lt. Lawrence Waldridge of the Elkton Police Department told the Cecil Whig that EPD investigators arrested Evans, who had fled from the scene, at the nearby Royal Farms store at 1199 E.
