Putting Gender Equality At Heart Of Victorian TAFE

VIC Premier An Australian-first guide to gender equality and respect will be rolled-out across Victorian TAFEs, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government. Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today launched the Respect and Equality in TAFE guide, supported by $800,000 from the Labor Government and led by Our Watch in collaboration with Victorian TAFEs. The step-by-step guide includes written and visual resources that work alongside a dedicated website, encouraging TAFEs to create change by implementing equality action plans, fostering female leadership, encouraging female students to enrol in non-traditional courses and supporting staff to identify and respond to incidents on-campus.

TAFE Trade Centre Lets Lilydale Locals Build Their Future

VIC Premier Residents from across the Dandenong Ranges will receive the training they need for rewarding jobs with the opening of a new $10.2 million TAFE trade training centre funded by the Andrews Labor Government. Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today launched the Lilydale Nallei Jerring Nyerboing Trade Centre, which was named in consultation with Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Doreen Wandin-Garvey and means ‘Join Unite Industrious’. The state-of-the-art facility at Box Hill Institute of TAFE features workspaces that can change and adapt to match the industry, including versatile ‘pods’ that replicate real-life construction sites. It also includes classrooms, meeting rooms and other amenities.

New GOTAFE Café To Boost Local Hospitality Workforce

VIC Premier A new $1.4 million paddock-to-plate café and restaurant funded by the Andrews Labor Government will give Shepparton students real-life training and become a destination for Victorian foodies. Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today officially opened Common Ground Café and Restaurant at GOTAFE Shepparton and met with local TAFE students to taste some of their culinary creations. The state-of-the-art facility includes an operational café that is open to the public with classrooms and multi-functional spaces that support learning opportunities for barista, hospitality and cookery students. Common Ground will help reinvigorate the Fryers Street campus with its must-eat menu of sustainable foods that also showcase the talents of students in other departments, including agriculture and baking.
