Saving Ship Street

It s time to invest in Ship Street and turn the ancient hamlet into a glorious example of the town s past. The campaign is part of a submission to the Draft Louth County Development Plan 2021-2027 from a collective of interests that include, Ship Street Residents Association, Upstate Theatre Project, Conservation Architect Caroline Whately and builder John Cassidy who have been collaborating for the last number of years to revitalise Ship Street. This collective has convened around the understanding that Ship Street is a site that intersects many of the areas of concern covered in the draft plan including sustainable regeneration in compact urban area, the conservation and redevelopment of an area of special architectural, artistic, cultural and historical significance as well as a residential area, they state.

Oregon Arts Commission awards nearly 100 small operating grants SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) – Small grants that often make a large difference in ensuring arts access for Oregonians, especially in rural areas, have been awarded to 97 statewide arts organizations by the Oregon Arts Commission for FY2021. Awarded to arts organizations in virtually every region of the state, Small Operating Grants are designed to provide support to arts organizations with budgets under $150,000. Eligibility is limited to organizations who have operated as an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit for two years or more and provide ongoing, sustained artistic programming and outreach programs. Each organization received $1,159. At the Coquille Valley Arts Association, a FY2020 Small Operating Grant award supported the purchase of a Peter Pugger Pugmill for the pottery department. The equipment recycles scrap clay that would otherwise end up in a landfill.

For Eric Dinowitz, a public-school teacher, father of 5-year-old twins and aspiring politician, one of the challenges living through the COVID-19 pandemic has been the disruption of his musical career. Dinowitz is a member of Six13, a Jewish all-male a cappella group formed in 2003. In an interview, he said what he has missed most over the last 11 months is frequent visits to the group’s recording studio and “traveling to different communities around the country,” which he described as “quite an experience.” The group is mostly known for its Passover and Hanukkah parody songs, as well as political parodies. In 2016, it performed a parody of the Hamilton musical at former President Barack Obama’s White House Hanukkah party.
