Sam Gould took her own life with an overdose of prescription drugs in Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire in September 2018. Coroner Nicholas Moss QC said there were shortcomings in her case. An inquest for Chris Gould, Sam s twin sister, who died in January 2019, will take place next month. The inquest at Huntingdon Town Hall heard that the twins had loving parents , and that Sam was an accomplished horse rider who was described as funny, kind, sassy and irreverent .

Announced on Tuesday, Ellie s Law, named after Wiltshire teenager Ellie Gould, means teenage killers could face sentences of up to 27 years. Ellie was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend Thomas Griffiths in May 2019. He was 17 at the time, so received a more lenient sentence than an adult defendant would have. The change in the law, announced by Justice Secretary Robert Buckland, is the culmination of a two-year campaign by Ellie s parents.

THE mother of Calne murder victim Ellie Gould has welcomed a possible change in the law that could result in teenage killers jailed for up to 27 years. Carole Gould says changes likely to be unveiled this week by Justice Secretary and South Swindon MP Robert Buckland are a “step in the right direction” but don’t meet everything she wants. Over the past two years, Mrs Gould has campaigned for a so-called Ellie’s Law which would see young offenders treated more like adults if convicted of murder. Speaking to the Gazette, she said: “We are on the right track. It is a step in the right direction.
