Our wards use maggot-infested toilets, live like prisoners - Parents petition Education Minister over condition of FGC Nise students

Parents of students of Federal Government College, Nise, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, have petitioned the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, over the condition of their wards in the school. The parents in a petition signed by ‘concerned parents’, alleged the maltreatment of their children by the principal of the school, Mrs Ijeoma Ekumankama. They said their children were literally in prison, considering their living conditions. They said under Ekumankama, the condition of the school has deteriorated so badly that the education minister has to intervene. Part of their petition read: “Our Children are presently living in overcrowded hostels with maggot-infested overflowing toilets. The Principal, Mrs. Ekumankama defiantly refused to improve these children’s living conditions despite all the resources channelled in by the PTA.

Salvation however came the way of the victim when a Good Samaritan petitioned NAPTIP in Benin reporting the case of a young lady in his neighbourhood who was being tormented daily. Mrs Ijeoma Uduak, the Zonal Commander, NAPTIP, Benin Zonal Command, said investigations revealed that the victim was trafficked from Idu Uruan and taken to Benin City by one woman, who gave the victim out to another woman as a domestic servant. She said both suspects have been arrested by the agency and were being prosecuted. Mrs Uduak, who handed over the victim to her mother, Madam Esther Udoh, at the palace of the Village Head of Idu Uruan, Uruan LGA,advised parents not to fall for the deception of traffickers.
