The Tiruppur City Police on Monday arrested a 16-year-old boy on charges of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.
Police sources said the boy was the victim s neighbour.
Around two weeks ago, he allegedly took the girl to his residence when her parents were at work and sexually assaulted her.
On Monday, the victim told her parents about the incident, following which they lodged a complaint at the All Women Police Station - Tiruppur North, the sources said.
The police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested the boy.

The Tiruppur City Police on Friday arrested another accused for his alleged involvement in the case related to committing forgery and misappropriating funds to the tune of nearly ₹ 69 lakh in the Registration Department.
A statement from the police said that R. Prakash was employed as an assistant in a private typing office in Tiruppur. He was the college-mate of R. Shankar, a former Assistant at Sub-Registrar Office (Joint-I) who was arrested in January. Shankar and an assistant at the Thottipalayam Sub-Registrar Office Panneerselvam allegedly gave the idea to Prakash on the possibilities of irregularities in the e-payment receipts used during document registration to misappropriate money.

The Tiruppur City Police on Wednesday arrested a former assistant, who was working at a Sub-Registrar Office, and a private document writer in connection with the case of committing forgery and misappropriating funds to the tune of nearly ₹ 69 lakh in the Registration Department.
A release issued on Thursday said the accused were R. Shankar (33), assistant at Sub-Registrar Office (Joint-I) who was suspended in December 2020, and Jaishankar (35), a document writer at a private typing office near this office. The arrests were made by a special team from Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the city police led by Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Balamurugan.

Two-wheeler-borne miscreants snatched the chains of two women in Coimbatore city and rural on Monday.
In the first incident, an unknown man snatched a five-sovereign chain from K. Rukumani (80) of Anna Street at Karamadai, when she was standing outside her house in the afternoon. The man approached the woman on the pretext of searching a house for rent, said the Karamadai police who have started investigation.
In the second incident, a five-sovereign chain of S. Rithika (42) of Muthu Nagar at Eachanari was snatched by an unknown man when she was standing in a bus shelter on Monday. As per her complaint, the man came from behind and snatched her chain. He escaped on a two-wheeler kept standby by his accomplice, the complaint said. The Podanur police are investigating.
