New Delhi: A 70-year-old jewellery shop owner in Srinagar’s Saraibala, Satpal Nischal, was shot dead by a militant group on Thursday allegedly for procuring a domicile certificate under the recently enacted law that enables eligible non-residents to have access to property and government jobs, which had been previously reserved for the locals, in Jammu and Kashmir.

SRINAGAR, Dec 18: A militant who was critically injured in a gunfight yesterday with security forces in Gund Baba area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district succumbed today here in Srinagar Hospital.
Identified as Zaheer Abbas Lone, had sustained bullet injuries in the abdomen, a police official said.He said that Lone succumbed to his injuries today at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital.
Lone was arrested in Baba Gund Khaleel area of Anantnag district after a brief exchange of fire during an anti-militancy operation on Thursday.
Police had yesterday on its official Twitter handle wrote tweeted, “Encounter started between Militants & security forces at Gund Baba Khaleel, Anantnag One local HM Militant Zaheer Abbas Lone r/o Pulwama arrested in injured condition & shifted to hospital Kashmir”.
