UDF launched communal campaign, says LDF candidate Swaraj
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is mulling over legal recourse against what they allege was a communally-loaded election campaign run by the victorious United Democratic Front candidate in the Thripunithura Assembly constituency. K. Babu of the Congress defeated the Left Democratic Front candidate M. Swaraj by 992 votes.
The party said that there had been instances in which entry to all women in Sabarimala and Mr. Swaraj’s speech in that connection was used communally in the electioneering. Such a graffiti was reported with cVigil, a mobile app launched by the Election Commission of India for fast-track complaint reception and redress system.

Addressing drinking water shortage among his top priorities
Returning as a people’s representative after being in the political wilderness for five years, K. Babu, who defeated incumbent M. Swaraj of the Left Democratic Front in a closely-fought electoral battle in Thripunithura Assembly constituency, remains confident of picking up the threads of development from where he had left it.
Addressing drinking water shortage and implementing infrastructural projects figure prominently among his priorities. Mr. Babu had represented the constituency for five successive terms since 1991 before his run was disrupted in 2016 when he was under the cloud of bar bribery scam.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) Thripunithura Assembly constituency committee has sought the ouster of the Congress leader A.B. Sabu, accusing him of sabotaging the prospects of the party and its candidate in a critical situation during the recent Assembly election. In a statement issued here on Thursday, the committee accused Mr. Sabu of trying to defame the UDF candidate from the constituency initially. It was also observed that his statement on the eve of the election created confusion amongst the minority communities.
The committee unanimously asked the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee to oust Mr. Sabu with immediate effect. A resolution to this effect was also passed unanimously by the committee, which observed that Mr. Sabu adopted a stance in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left Democratic Front.
