PEORIA Word that the city of Peoria will get about $46 million in federal COVID-19 aid brought relief to city leaders but also a slew of questions that can t be answered just yet.
Last week, President Joe Biden signed into law the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that includes $350 billion in relief aid to state and local governments. For months, City Hall has been pleading for help as the pandemic ravaged city coffers and slashed its income from sales taxes.
The city and Peoria County will get a combined $85 million or so in federal relief dollars, according to Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich. The Tri-County Area stands to get about $141.3 million in federal dollars, he said.
