Young’s retirement continues a trend in Las Vegas’ training camp. On Friday, backup running back Theo Riddick retired, and on Monday, linebacker James Onwuala announced his retirement. Running backs coach Kirby Wilson retired last month. Off the field, business executives Marc Badain and Brandon Doll both also recently left the franchise.
While the onslaught of player retirements may seem alarming, it’s not all that unusual. On occasion, veteran players decide they want to leave the game during training camp so I wouldn’t look at it as an indictment of coach Jon Gruden’s program.

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) Josh Jacobs was among the NFL s busiest running backs in his second year with the Las Vegas Raiders, and learned what it s like to get plenty of attention from the defense.
A significant drop in his per-carry average accompanied better production around the goal line, so now the former Alabama back will see if he can keep both numbers up. He ll get every chance, even after the offseason addition of Kenyan Drake.

Reserve offensive lineman Sam Young hung up his cleats Tuesday, becoming the third player on the Las Vegas Raiders to retire this week.
Young is 34.
He played in 11 games (seven starts) in 2020, his first season with the Raiders. For his career, he played in 103 games (28 starts) with six different teams. He began his career in Dallas after the Cowboys selected him in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of Notre Dame
Young joins veteran running back Theo Riddick and third-year linebacker/special teams player James Onwualu to retire in the first week of training camp in Vegas.
