Dagdi Chawl, the den of convicted gangster Arun Gawli alias Daddy, is all set to be redeveloped after Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (
MHADA) gave a letter of intent (LOI) for its redevelopment. Dagdi Chawl is a famous hideout that gave Gawli protection not only from his rivals,
Dawood Ibrahim and Amar Naik gangs, but also the police.
Gawli’s family that hails from Madhya Pradesh had settled in the Dagdi Chawl at Saat Rasta in Byculla.
The accused beat up security personnel present there and ransacked the premises.
One of the policemen received injuries and was hospitalised.
The accused, represented by advocate Nandkumar Rajurkar, contested the case and denied all charges against them.
After hearing both the sides, the judge held that the prosecution proved charges against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.
The judge in his order stated, “.the conduct is nothing but deterring and preventing public servants while discharging their duties as public servants. Under these circumstances, leniency cannot be shown.
