Family members of a man who died in Chattogram early Tuesday said he was a employee of SS Power I Plant at Chattogram s Banshkhali upazila and succumbed to bullet wounds sustained during police firing at the plant on April 17.
The victim is Md Raziul Islam Reza, 25, son of Abdul Mannan of Dinajpur s Phulbari thana, according to police and family sources.
However, a Banshkhali Police Station officials said today that they are not sure about the death as no one contacted them about it.
A recent decision of the High Court Division (HCD) declaring that women cannot act as

nikah registrars (or commonly known as kazi ) for Dinajpur s Phulbari municipality. The reason shown for cancellation was that all three selected candidates were women and in the present realities of Bangladesh, women could not be appointed as
nikah registrars . One of the selected panelists had filed the petition, which was eventually rejected by the HCD.

A gateman was killed at a level crossing as a freight train hit a truck in Dinajpur s Phulbari upazila early yesterday.
The dead, Sushanto Kumar Das, 28, was an employee of Bangladesh Railway under Pakshey railway zone. He hailed from Ishwardi upazila of Pabna.
Israfil Sarkar, stationmaster of Phulbari Railway Station, said Chilahati-bound Rocket Mail train from Khulna was waiting at platform-1 for clearance around 1:00am. At that time, a freight train from Dinajpur s Parbatipur upazila was heading towards the station. The train was supposed to be given clearance for entering platform-2.
