State College Board of Health votes to follow CDC masking guidelines, increase gathering sizes

The State College Board of Health met Wednesday for an emergency meeting to discuss making changes to the current masking and gathering ordinance 2152. The board voted to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions’ and Pennsylvania Department of Health’s indoor and outdoor masking guidelines, which allow fully vaccinated individuals to forgo masks. They also voted to increase outdoor municipal and park gathering from 50 to 100 people and outdoor residential gathering from 25 to 100 people. The board voted to allow people to no longer wear masks while waiting in lines, however, the board also agreed to propose new wording to the ordinance encouraging — not mandating — all people to wear masks in crowded areas.

Penn State to Stop Using Freshman, Sophomore Titles Due to Male-Centric Academic History On 5/17/21 at 1:17 PM EDT Penn State University will stop using the titles freshman, sophomore, junior and senior in efforts to move away from male-centric academic history and closer to a more inclusive educational environment. Penn State s Faculty Senate approved a proposition seeking to remove gendered and binary terms from the school s course and program descriptions, according to the university s student-run paper The Daily Collegian. A spokesperson for the Senate office told The Daily Collegian that proposition was approved on April 27. The recommendations will be implemented following comments from the office of the president, but it is unclear exactly when those changes will go into effect.
