Police investigating inmate death at SCI-Dallas

The release said inmate Edgar Gearhart, 24, was found unresponsive around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Correctional officers and medical staff immediately responded to administer life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful, the department said. Medics responded to the facility and declared Gearhart dead, authorities said. The cause and manner of death is pending an investigation by the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office. Gearhart was serving a 10- to 20-year sentence for third-degree murder out of Northumberland County, the department said. He had been at SCI-Dallas since June 2019. Gearhart stabbed his mother and killed her boyfriend in 2015, according to newspaper archives from The Daily Item in Sunbury.

Enrique Cabrera Cruz of Southbridge held on 150K after arraignment on 28 child rape counts

WORCESTER A Southbridge man was held on $150,000 bail in Worcester Superior Court Tuesday after pleading not guilty to 28 counts of child rape.  Enrique E. Cabrera Cruz, 37, was arraigned on 56 counts in all, court records show, including counts of child rape, indecent assault and battery and posing a child in the nude.  Details of Cabrera Cruz’s alleged crimes were not read into the record Tuesday. Cabrera Cruz was indicted on the charges in November, records show.  Cabrera Cruz is charged with 19 counts of rape of a child aggravated by a 5-year age difference and nine counts of rape of a child aggravated by a 10-year age difference.

Diblin died this week from complications with COVID-19 at the age of 103. Joe Diblin was a good man. John Deppen said. That is the man that I knew, that I loved. I think Joe would want to be remembered as a good man, and that s the way I will remember him.

The campaign is administered by Salvation Army citadels in Milton and Sunbury and sponsored by The Daily Item, Sunbury Broadcasting Corp. and Mifflinburg Bank & Trust. The 1994 Charles B. Degenstein Foundation will also match the first $50,000 in donations.
