From staff reports
ST. PAUL Sen. Gary Dahms, R-Redwood Falls, and Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, reported on Minnesota Legislature actions this past week. While Dahms was upbeat on a multiple Senate bills dealing with education, housing and the environment, Swedzinski was critical of a climate and energy bill pushed by Democrats in the House.
Both the House and Senate are busy taking up key issues down the final stretch as the May 17 adjournment looms.
Omnibus education bill
The Minnesota Senate approved a bipartisan bill Thursday that funds K-12 schools and transforms the way the state delivers education. The bill emphasizes improving student performance, literacy, and mental health, and empowering parents.
All three properties were heard on third reading and approved with no discussion.
The council approved the rezoning of East Pointe Condominiums in the 1500 block of Krammerer Road from Planned Unit Development to R-3 Condominium district. The second also rezoned North Pointe Condominiums, in the 700 block of N. Riley Road from R-1 (one and two family district) to R-3 Condominium District. The last changes the property at 615 Professional Way from Planned Unit Development to 1B Local Commercial, Retail Sales District.
The only other piece of business on the agenda was the approval on second reading of the formation of a special account for the cityâs American Rescue Plan funding. Cities and towns in Noble County and northeast Indiana will receive anywhere from $40,000 to $2.81 million, which must be used by the end of 2024.
Today’s batch of burning questions, my smart-aleck answers and the real deal:
Question: What is the reason for all the work being done on the slopes above the east side of I-240, across the freeway from Tunnel Road? A long answer is not required, just select: A Hotel. B Brewery. C Costco. D Golden Corral.
My answer: One day someone is going to build a ginormous Costco here with a hotel, brewpub and Golden Corral inside. And then I m going to retire, because my work will be complete.
Real answer: I really can t believe this reader left off option E Apartments.
