Lambertville couple victims of $34,000 forgery attempt A Lambertville couple were victims of a forgery attempt by a woman who tried to steal $34,000 from their account at Directions Credit Union this month. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office investigated the couple’s complaint after they learned the woman named “Maria Alla” had cashed a check May 12 for $34,000 made out to her and allegedly signed by the husband. When the couple discovered the check, they went to the credit union to discuss what happened, a deputy’s report said. The check was electronically deposited, the couple learned from the credit union. The husband’s signature did not match one the credit union had kept on record. The husband told deputies he never signed the check and doesn’t use a checkbook, but his wife did.
